I have a bunch of different reggae tracks right now. I could put a reggae album together if I wanted to. I have songs in all different genres. I never stop recording and writing stuff—I never stop doing it privately. I could put out a country album. I could put out a jazz album. I cover the total landscape of music, all different types of sounds. When I wrote it, that was the week so much was going on.
Eddie Murphy says he has enough material to release even a country or jazz album. Eddie Murphy knows reggae. But unlike Snoop, whose calculated Jamaican reincarnation met an inevitable backlash , Eddie has received a largely positive response from his seemingly organic foray into the genre. Speaking from his home outside Los Angeles, the entertainer spoke on the story behind the song, his love for everything from jazz to country and the status of Beverly Hills Cop 4. I stopped putting music out 20 years ago.
With no more Shrek sequels to spin out, it was perhaps inevitable that Eddie Murphy would return to music. Some people might consider this a cynical move, what with Eddie's film career not going so well of late. His last film, 's A Thousand Words, was dubbed as possibly "the worst-reviewed film of all time". But a quick glance through the madness of Murphy's back catalogue suggests we should celebrate instead — with Eddie you never know what might happen next. Eddie certainly doesn't seem intent on returning to the trademark 80s pop-disco sound that gave us the Rick James-produced classic Party All the Time. When making a comeback, it's important to make a statement and Eddie has done just that by stealing his mate Snoop Lion's idea: he's gone reggae. It takes a sorry look at the current financial straits we're in and includes references to "emancipation" and "race relations", along with a shoutout from Snoop to Haile Selassie, the late emperor of Ethiopia. Eddie's next release is a love song about a girl named Mary. Except Mary isn't a girl, she's weed.
It's up to you to decide whether or not this is someone worth waiting for. This was hard for me because my faith is deeply rooted within me. Sure I have met alot of douche bag doctors who have no morals, think they are 'it' and you know that they feel free to cheat whenever. See to it that she is aware of your plan, so you both can properly dress.
